Questions About Life & Faith?

We hope that if you come along to church for one of our Sunday services you will have the chance to talk to one of our church family about their faith and how it impacts their life. But if you want to make a specific time to talk, please contact the Church Office who will put you in touch with one of our staff members.

Each year we run a number of Alpha courses. It’s a fun and friendly chance to get a free meal, hear more about the Christian faith, discuss it with other people and ask whatever questions you want. Please contact us to book onto the next course.

What is Alpha?

Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith, run over nine weeks. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone is welcome. It runs in cafés, churches, universities, homes, bars – you name it.

No two Alphas look the same, but generally they have three key things in common: food, a talk and good discussion.

Who is it for?

Alpha is for everyone; no question is out of bounds and you are free to discuss as much or as little as you wish. We don’t assume any background knowledge of or belief in Christianity and everyone is welcome.

You don’t have to come for the whole term – just pop along for the first session and see what you think. No pressure, no follow up and no charge.

When is it?

Dates for Alpha are TBC.

Alpha is typically be held on Monday nights from 7.30pm – 9.30pm at St Hugh’s for 9 weeks.

First up there's food...

Whether it's a group of friends gathered around a kitchen table, or a quick catch up over coffee and cake, food has a way of bringing people together. It's no different at Alpha and at St Hugh’s we love food!  Each week Alpha will kick off with a meal, it's a great way to get to know each other and build community.

Then a talk...

The talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Usually around twenty minutes long. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions from 'Who is Jesus?  and 'Why did Jesus die?' to 'Why and how do I read the Bible?'  and 'How does God guide us?'

Followed by a discussion...

Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There's no obligation to say anything and there's nothing you can't say (seriously). It's an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.
